Bedevilled Plot
Hae-won takes a week of vacation to a desolate island where she spent her childhood, as she needed a change of pace, and as a request for a long-forgotten old friend of hers. She is working in Seoul bank as a middle-rank officer, an unfriendly, tense, single woman. She is brought down by work-related status and her hypercompetitive mentality.
She is warmly welcomed by Bok-nam, her close friends when both were in their teens. Bok-nam’s life in an undeveloped, socially aggressive island is hard, she is treated as a slave by her abusive husband Man-jong, his lustful brother, and the local mean old woman. Bok-nam’s concern is her young daughter Yeon-hee, with whom she tries to escape for a better life. But the attempt is derailed by Man-jong and the villagers, it causes death to her daughter in the struggle. Meanwhile, Hae-won as a friend does not do anything rather than be a bystander watching Bok-nam’s suffering. She does not support Bok-nam’s case as the investigation proceeds.
Bok-nam turned to become vengeful. She kills anyone she can get her hands on. Terrified, Hae-won escapes the island and returns to the mainland.
