The Host Plot
An American military pathologist orders his Korean assistant to dump 200 bottles of formaldehyde down a drain leading into the Han River. Years later a strange amphibious creature in the waterway showed up, and fishes died in the river.
In 2006, it was a fine morning and everyone was enjoying the heat of the sun. A slow-witted man, Park Gang-du runs a small snack bar in a park near the river with his father, Hee-bong. Other Park’s family members are Gang-du’s daughter, Hyun-seo, his sister Nam-joo (a national medalist archer and his brother, Nam-il (an alcoholic college graduate and former political activist).
All of a sudden, a huge creature appears from the river and begins attacking people. Gang-du hurried back to their stand but got stuck helping others, he and the other guy tried to fight with the creature. And as he escaped away from the site, he saw Hyun-seo and quickly grabbed his daughter from the crowd and ran but after realizing he had grabbed the wrong person’s hand. His eyes witness the creature snatching away Hyun-seo and diving back into the river. After a mass funeral for the victims, government representatives and the American military arrive and quarantine people who had contact with the creature, including Gang-du and his family. It is announced that the creature is the host of a deadly, unknown virus.
Grieving for their loved ones, suddenly Gang-du receives a phone call from Hyun-seo. Saying that she is trapped in the sewers with the creature, but her phone stops working. Park’s family escapes the hospital to search for Hyun-seo and bravely faces the consequences.
